Referencing technical standards

Each accessibility failure noted in your accessibility statement should describe the issue in non-technical terms. It should also include a reference to the applicable requirements in the standard and when it will be fixed.

For example:

"Images on the home page do not include alternative text. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). This will be fixed by September 2020."

Research highlights that including this information is not useful to users and is confusing. We recommend that you remove this detail from the main statement and provide it in a linked document or in a show/hide widget.

For example:

"Images on the home page do not include alternative text. This will be fixed by September 2020. View detailed report."
