Performance Analyst

A performance analyst tracks how well a service is working. They collect data, measure success, and suggest ways to improve the service.

What they do

  • define and track key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • analyse service data and report insights
  • support decision-making with evidence-based metrics
  • work closely with service teams to ensure data is used effectively
  • identify trends and recommend improvements

Key outputs

  • Performance dashboards - visualise key metrics for tracking success.
  • KPI reports - document service performance against objectives
  • Data validation frameworks - ensure reliable data collection and analysis
  • User engagement and service adoption reports - track how users interact with the service.

Project tasks

  • Discovery - identify KPIs and define measurement approach
  • Alpha - set up analytics tools and begin early data collection
  • Beta - monitor and analyse service performance against KPIs
  • Live - publish performance reports, track trends and inform decisions

Hiring considerations

Before hiring, consider whether the skills already exist in your organisation. Training or reallocating staff might be a more effective way to fill gaps.

  • When to hire - if data-driven decision-making is lacking, or if KPIs are not being tracked effectively.
  • When to upskill - if a team member is good at working with data, analysing trends, and visualising performance metrics
  • Essential skills - data analysis, performance measurement, dashboard development, data storytelling
  • Common tools - Google Analytics, Microsoft Power BI (for performance monitoring), Excel (for data analysis), Confluence (for KPI documentation)
