Where to publish your service content
If you're delivering a digital service for any Scottish public sector body, you need to make sure people can find clear, accurate information about it.
Publishing in the right place helps people access your service. It also supports the Scottish Government’s aim to provide accessible, efficient and user-centred public services.
What you publish, and where you publish it, depends on what the content is for. For example, content might:
-
help someone complete a task
-
explain a policy
-
promote an initiative
There are 5 main publishing routes for Scottish public sector content:
-
mygov.scot (for mainstream content about services, rights and understanding the law)
-
gov.scot (for policy, ministerial or coporate government content, including specialist and technical regulatory guidance)
-
your organisation’s existing corporate website (if it meets governance and accessibility standards) or a new corporate website
-
campaign sites or landing pages (for time-limited promotional campaigns)
-
other small sites with specific functions or purposes not met by any of the other 4
You can also use channels like social media or newsletters to increase visibility. Use these to support, not replace, a trusted and accessible publishing platform.
All public sector services for the people and businesses of Scotland should be listed on (and accessible through) the Scottish Government’s mygov.scot website.
mygov.scot
mygov.scot is the Scottish Government’s main website for public services and mainstream content (everyday services and information most people need).

How to publish on mygov.scot
Email contentupdates@gov.scot with your request.
If your team includes a content designer, you can request devolved access to manage your own content under a Service Level Agreement (SLA).
If your team does not include a content designer, the mygov.scot team will manage your content and make updates when you request them.
Content ownership
As the content owner, you are responsible for keeping your content accurate and up to date. You can request changes at any time. The mygov.scot team reviews your content every year.
You may need to:
-
provide accurate information and relevant documents
-
review content and user journeys
-
attend content development meetings
-
tell the content designer about changes to your service
-
approve content before it’s published
-
respond to review requests
You do not need to:
-
write or edit the content (the content designer does this)
-
comment on the style or tone (the content designer follows Scottish Government standards)
Other routes
Publishing content on the other routes depends on where you work and exactly what content you’re trying to publish.
If you're not sure where to publish, email contentupdates@gov.scot for advice.
