What is an accessibility statement

An accessibility statement tells your users about the accessibility of your website or application. It's a requirement of the accessibility regulations, which also define what should be in your statement.

The statement will help your users understand how accessible your service is and what areas might still have problems. It should be kept under regular review and updated yearly.

While the statement is a regulatory requirement, it's worth considering how the information you provide can help different users, for example:

  • as a user with an accessibility need the accessibility statement helps me understand what parts of your website I can and can't use so I know that it is compatible with my needs
  • as a support worker I want to check the accessibility of your website so I can advise others to use it
